The Company Program - A Student Venture Extra-curricular Edition (Grades 9 - 12)

Program Description An entrepreneurial group of bold and independent risk-takers often characterizes JA students after they have completed an experience in JA's The Company Program. In this exciting program, budding young entrepreneurs are taught in an entertaining and engaging way, about the nuances of running a business. It is designed to help students understand the economy in which they live, foster problem solving skills, create an understanding of team work and develop their management skills. Dealing with competition and accepting responsibility for business decisions help set personal values and add to self-esteem.
As our flagship program, The Company Program is the ultimate business experience for high school students where they try out their ideas and strategies as entrepreneurs. Working with a team of volunteers from the business community, students develop a business plan and manage their own small business over an 18 week business cycle. They market product, track finances and pay taxes, winding up their operations by publishing a Shareholder's Report and distributing profits. Volunteer Role Volunteers teach in the evening and act in an advisory role. They need to be organized, patient, motivated, have high energy, be a team player, and have a sense of adventure. It is recommended that volunteers need specific skill areas i.e. finance, HR, accounting, administration. Volunteers should be able to work with teens and have excellent communication skills.

"This year with Junior Achievement was another step in a positive direction. I have my teammates, my Advisers, and the entire JA Program to thank for two years of education, experience and excitement. I will not forget this program." - Student, Colonel Gray Senior High
