Program Description

Through participation in this exciting program, students experience the risks and rewards of entrepreneurship by starting and operating a classroom based business. In a series of activities led by a volunteer from the community, students explore the requirements of today's successful businesses. As a class, students decide whether to produce a product or provide a service. They raise the required start up capital, and track the financial performance of their venture. Student Venture provides an ideal opportunity for students to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to be successful business owners and operators.

Students learn the value of self sufficiency through the exploration of entrepreneurship, workforce readiness and life skills that come with the startup and operation of a business. Specific activities involved include:

  • Selecting a product or service and a name for the venture
  • Business Planning and Capitalization
  • Electing a management team and assigning students to roles within the organization
  • Planning and implementing plans to finance the venture and market the product or service
  • Operating a business, including processes of quality control, record keeping and reporting information
  • Liquidating the company at a designated time
