Program Description
Take students on a fast-forward trip to Canada’s future. Our Country - Technology and Innovation engages elementary school students in activities to define new ideas for business and society by learning about our technological past and present. Enter the next generation of creativity and invention.
Students achieve understanding of the impact progress has on business and society, a greater ability to comprehend, describe and respond to change, create a desire to invent solutions to meet our current and future needs.
Build a Better Tomorrow
Lead an exploration of our major business sectors and the contributions of Canadian inventors. Our Country - Technology and Innovation helps students discover the value and necessity of change in economic and social progress. New trends build a future of inspiring concepts and entrepreneurial ideas. Our path to a better tomorrow begins today.
- Draw the connections between traditional and modern technologies
- Match Canadian inventions with those who developed them
- Bid to bring new technologies to market in a class auction
- Experience a day in the future by inventing new devices
Our Country - Technology and Innovation is curriculum-linked, student centred and skills focused. It can be delivered by a qualified business volunteer once per week for 40-60 minutes over a four week period, at no cost to schools or groups.
Volunteer Profile
Volunteers should be interested in working with young children. He/she may have a parental and/or an early childhood education background. Volunteers should be able to work in a structured classroom environment. Volunteers must be comfortable with young children i.e. sitting on the floor, circle time etc. Volunteers from a corporate, business and professional background as well as University and college students are excellent volunteer choices.
